The sixth track in Ṣẹwà‘s DETOX sequence, “Y2K,” marks a conceptual turning point where the artist turns outward to analyze the source of the noise they have been cleansing. Using the year 2000 era as a metaphor, the song addresses the origins of digital anxiety, the fear of the unknown (“the bug”), and the rapid acceleration of information overload. It’s a reflective, yet upbeat, Alternative R&B / Electronic Pop track.

Koya’s production is brilliant here, layering crisp, futuristic percussion over warm, nostalgic synth pads reminiscent of late ’90s R&B. The juxtaposition of the retro textures with a modern, clear bassline perfectly reflects the theme: looking at the past through a polished, detoxed lens. Ṣẹwà’s delivery is detached and observational, identifying the roots of the toxic “static” that required the entire album’s process. “Y2K” is a sophisticated and danceable exploration of how we transitioned from one century’s panic into another’s constant distraction.
