Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, widely known as Phyno, is a prominent Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born on October 9, 1986, in Enugu, Nigeria, he developed an interest in music production during his secondary school years. Though he is a native of Anambra State, he was born and raised in Enugu and studied public administration at the Institute of Management and Technology there. He began his music career as a producer in 2003, and by 2010, he had started rapping, eventually relocating to Lagos to pursue his career more professionally.
Phyno is celebrated for his unique style of rapping primarily in the Igbo language, a move he made out of respect for his culture. His debut studio album, No Guts No Glory, was released in 2014 and featured popular singles like “Ghost Mode” and “Man of the Year (Obago),” which helped cement his place in the Nigerian music industry. Phyno has since released several other albums and collaborated with numerous artists, becoming a key figure in the rise of indigenous Nigerian hip-hop.
