Amorim confirms Bayindir will start vs Man City

In a decisive move ahead of the Manchester derby, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Altay Bayindir will start in goal against Manchester City.

This decision comes after Bayindir’s impressive performances in the opening three Premier League games, where he held his position as the starting goalkeeper. The young Turkish international has now been entrusted with the crucial role in one of football’s biggest rivalries, with new signing Senne Lammens set to watch from the sidelines.

The Manchester derby, a pivotal fixture in the Premier League calendar, will be live on Super Sunday, where all eyes will be on Bayindir as he faces the formidable Manchester City attack.

“Altay [Bayindir] is going to continue because we need to,” Amorim said ahead of the game against City.

“This game is clear. Altay will start. It’s a show of faith in Altay.”

“Altay starts – a clear message by the United boss that despite Senne Lammens’ arrival on Deadline Day.

“Amorim will go with his tried and tested goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

“A game which could show us that this United side can finally back up promising performances in the Premier League with some tangible evidence of results to match if they can get past this City side.

“Amorim said he felt his side are ready for the derby – but without the attacking options of Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount – we could see a first league start for summer signing Benjamin Sesko and Amad moving to a 10 position too.”

Amorim explains Onana departure
Manchester United boss says Andre Onana needed a change after the goalkeeper secured a season-long loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

The 29-year-old shotstopper lost his place as United’s out-and-out No 1 after missing pre-season due to injury. Following a series of errors, United signed another ‘keeper in Senne Lammens for £18.2m on deadline day.

Asked whether Onana could have stayed to fight for his N 1 spot back, Amorim said:

“For us, he could [have continued], but I think not just us as a club, but also Andre – I think we understood that this needed a change.

“Sometimes it’s up to a point to why it’s not the performance, but it’s the moment, the bad luck in some moments, was hard on him, was hard on us, and we think it’s time to have a change in the goalkeepers, but I wish the best for Andre Onana.

“He was, it was really good working, trying to help the players, but sometimes you can have all the quality in the world, but sometimes you need to change the environment to return to your level.

“That, I think, was the feeling, not just from us.”
